Mughal Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mughal Iron & Steel Industries Limited, has successfully commissioned the main 31.5 MW turbine of its captive hybrid power plant and achieved the Commercial Operation Date (COD), the company said in a stock exchange filing.
The company said all requisite testing and commissioning activities have been completed, and the plant is now ready for commercial billing.
The commissioning marks the completion of a key phase of the hybrid power plant project, which Mughal Steel previously said would help reduce energy costs through captive power generation. The project is also expected to support the company’s cost competitiveness amid challenging energy and steel market conditions.
With an annual production capacity of around 1 mln tons, Mughal Steel produces billets, rebar and structural steel products, along with copper ingots primarily exported to China.
