India’s largest iron ore producer NMDC is targeting production of 60 mln tons this fiscal year to meet growing demand from domestic steelmakers, Chairman Amitava Mukherjee said.
NMDC produced 53.15 mln tons of iron ore in FY2026 and is implementing a production ramp-up plan to reach 60 mln tons this fiscal, including output from NMDC-CMDC Ltd (NCL) joint venture assets.
NCL is a 51:49 joint venture between NMDC and Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation (CMDC), established to develop and operate iron ore assets in the Bailadila sector of Chhattisgarh.
The targeted production would represent an increase of around 20pct from the previous fiscal. The company aims to raise iron ore production to 100 mln tons by 2030-31, in line with India’s National Steel Policy 2017 target of 300 mln tons of installed domestic steelmaking capacity.
NMDC is India’s largest iron ore producer, operating the high-grade Bailadila mines in Chhattisgarh and the Donimalai and Kumaraswamy mines in Karnataka. The company aims to increase its iron ore production capacity to 100 mln tons per annum by FY2031.
