Nucor to invest USD 105 mln in Indiana utility structures facility

Nucor Corporation plans to invest USD 105 mln to expand production capacity at its Nucor Towers & Structures facility in Crawfordsville, Indiana, to meet growing demand for utility poles and related products used in power transmission and distribution infrastructure.

The expansion will add more than 120,000 sq ft of manufacturing space equipped with advanced automation and modern production technologies.

Nucor said the investment responds to rising demand as utilities upgrade the electricity grid and address growing power consumption.

Nucor Towers & Structures was formed in 2022 following the company’s acquisition of Summit Utility Structures. Nucor subsequently established facilities in Alabama and Indiana and is building another plant in Utah. Its operations include automated manufacturing and hot-dip galvanizing of utility structures.

Nucor is a major North American steel producer with operations across the United States, Canada and Mexico, manufacturing carbon and alloy steel in bars, beams, sheet and plate, along with a wide range of downstream steel products. Its portfolio includes structural products, steel joists and decking, rebar, wire and mesh, steel grating, metal building systems and insulated panels. Through its affiliates, Nucor also processes and brokers ferrous and non-ferrous metals and is North America’s largest recycler.
