Primetals Technologies has received the Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC) from Outokumpu Stainless USA for the successful upgrade of process optimization systems at its Calvert, Alabama facility. The project involved a full Level 2 automation upgrade across the meltshop and casting areas.
Delivered under a 7-year subscription model, the upgrade ensures access to the latest technologies through regular software updates while replacing large upfront costs with manageable annual fees. The subscription-based system also guarantees long-term compatibility with evolving software standards.
The enhanced suite includes EAF Optimizer, AOD Optimizer, LTS Optimizer, CC Optimizer, TPQC CCM, and the Ladle Tracker. These systems improve operational efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and support Outokumpu’s sustainability goals by maximizing resource utilization and boosting adaptability to market shifts.
Outokumpu and Primetals Technologies have collaborated since 2012, when the Calvert meltshop and caster were first outfitted with advanced process optimization tools. Since then, Primetals has provided continuous support through training, software updates, and on-demand services under long-term service agreements.
