The Pakistan Association of Large Steel Producers (PALSP) has urged the government to establish a clear, written policy outlining applicable tax rates to ensure smoother operations and greater stability in the steel sector.
During a meeting with Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Industries and Production, the PALSP delegation voiced concerns over what they called discriminatory policies affecting the industry. They stressed the need for a consistent policy framework, particularly around taxation.
In response, SAPM Khan acknowledged the industry’s concerns and reassured the delegation that the government is committed to supporting the steel sector. While manufacturers called for a reduction in import tariffs on finished steel goods, Khan clarified that the current downturn is primarily driven by declining market demand, not regulatory duties or government-imposed barriers.
Concluding the meeting, he reaffirmed the government’s dual commitment to fiscal responsibility and industrial support, promising continued dialogue and solutions tailored to the steel industry’s needs.
