Italian steelmaker Pittini Group has awarded Danieli a contract to modernize the rolling mill at its SiderPotenza plant in Potenza.
The project aims to improve production efficiency while reducing billet reheating gas consumption and CO2 emissions, in line with Pittini’s sustainability strategy. The revamp includes a new rolling mill with 20 SHS cartridge stands, allowing billet size to increase to 165 mm and preparing the plant for a future spooler line.
Initial production will target 2.5-ton coils, with scope to upgrade to 5-ton coils through the addition of a horizontal billet welder.
The upgraded mill will continue feeding the existing bar line for sizes from 2×8 mm to 40 mm, while the future spooler line will produce coils in the 10-25 mm range.
The project is scheduled around a single 45-day shutdown, enabled by extensive pre-assembly to minimize installation time, with hot start-up planned for 2027.
The Pittini Group is a major European producer of long steel products, known for its focus on a circular economy model using recycled ferrous materials. The group has an annual production capacity of more than 3 mln tons of steel.
