Rebar exports plummet in Apr 2023

Turkish rebar exports experienced a significant decline in April 2023, according to data from TUIK. The exports dropped by 24pct compared to the previous month and over 65pct on a YoY basis.

Buyers showed little interest in the export offers from Turkish rebar producers due to weak demand in several regions and the availability of cheaper rebar offers from other sources.

During April, Israel emerged as the top buyer of Turkish rebar, importing 57,747 tons. Senegal followed as the second major recipient with 19,277 tons, while Yemen and Jamaica imported 14,994 tons and 14,948 tons, respectively.

Other major markets for Turkish rebar in April included Panama with 8,879 tons, Cyprus with 8,675 tons, Albania with 7,987 tons, and Ethiopia with 5,084 tons.

In the first four months of 2023, Turkish rebar exports totaled 897,756 tons, marking a decline of nearly 60pct compared to the same period in the previous year.

Israel maintained its position as the leading destination for Turkish rebar exports, with a total of 209,773 tons, followed by Yemen with 183,013 tons.
