Rodacciai has completed a key upgrade of its rolling mill at the Sirone plant, in collaboration with Italian automation specialist AIC (Automazioni Industriali Capitanio). The project marks a major step in the ongoing modernization of the facility, aimed at boosting safety and operational efficiency.
The scope of work included the relocation and upgrade of two existing DC drive cabinets to meet Performance Level D safety standards. These now control two new horizontal and vertical stands (H+V). AIC also supplied a motor and AC drive for the upstream pinch roll, while mechanical components were provided by Danieli.
As part of the upgrade, AIC delivered a new automation system based on its RACS cascade control platform, enabling the mill to handle larger billet sizes. Additional enhancements included access control equipment for safety zones and local control stations for the stands.
Founded in 1956, Rodacciai is a leading Italian manufacturer of high-quality steel bars and wire rods, offering specialty steels such as stainless, alloy, and carbon grades.
