Rugui Squares & Special Profiles, a leading Spanish steel producer, has successfully commissioned a new walking hearth reheating furnace at its Azkoitia facility, with the first hot billet rolled on November 27, 2025.
The project, delivered by Fives, replaces a more than 40-year-old furnace that no longer met modern production or quality requirements.
The upgraded furnace incorporates AdvanTek Central Wide Flame (CWF) burners with NOx emissions below 50 ppm and an advanced energy-recovery system that preheats combustion air to higher temperatures than conventional designs. These features significantly reduce CO2 emissions and fuel consumption while enhancing billet quality.
The investment strengthens Rugui’s ability to produce high-value billets for demanding applications in shipbuilding, agricultural machinery, construction, and other sectors where consistent, premium-quality steel is essential.
