Salzgitter acquires Thyrolf & Uhle to expand defense-related steel capabilities

Salzgitter AG has agreed to acquire Thyrolf & Uhle GmbH, expanding its portfolio in the defense and security steel segment.

Thyrolf & Uhle has been active in steel processing since 1859 and employs around 100 people. The company specializes in steel construction, component manufacturing, and sheet metal processing, with annual processing capacity exceeding 12,000 tons, positioning it among the more efficient specialists in its field.

Salzgitter said the acquisition strengthens its expertise through Thyrolf & Uhle’s certifications for processing security steels in line with TL-2350-0000 and its manufacturer qualification under DIN 2303 Q3 BK, enabling the group to better serve growing demand from the defense sector.

Thyrolf & Uhle processes security steels including SECURE 400, 450, 500, and 600 grades and manufactures steel components and assemblies for infrastructure protection as well as civil and military vehicle applications, a segment gaining importance in Germany and Europe amid recent geopolitical developments.

The company’s capabilities are expected to complement Salzgitter’s existing steel and component construction portfolio. The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and the parties have agreed not to disclose financial terms.

Salzgitter is one of Germany’s leading steelmakers, with crude steel capacity of about 6.4 mln tons.
