Turkish stainless steel producer Saritas Celik is set to commission the second phase of its solar power plant (SPP) project at its Gebze facility, aiming to further cut carbon emissions and support its green production goals.
The first phase, launched in 2024, currently supplies 25pct of the plant’s energy needs. With the second phase scheduled for completion in 2025, the company targets covering 55pct of its consumption through solar power. The plant’s total installed capacity will reach 3.18 MWp, generating around 3.79 mln kWh annually, enough to meet over half of the facility’s energy demand from renewable sources.
General Manager Selcuk Saritas highlighted the use of high-performance machinery and advanced automation systems focused on energy efficiency, calling the solar investment a key step in reinforcing the company’s green steel capabilities.
Meanwhile, Saritas Celik is developing an integrated stainless steel production complex in Yalova with a total capacity of 800,000 tons per year. The four-phase project begins with a 400,000-ton cold rolling mill in 2027, followed by a hot rolling mill in 2028, which will double output. A steel melting plant set to be commissioned in 2030 will enable fully integrated production from melting to finished goods.
The company’s Gebze processing center will remain operational and continue offering value-added services such as slitting, cutting, grinding, painting, surface treatments, and anti-fingerprint coating to serve industrial clients.
