Saudi Arabia and Qatar sign agreement for Riyadh-Doha high-speed rail link

Saudi Arabia and Qatar have signed an agreement to develop a high-speed electric rail link between Riyadh and Doha, running through Dammam and Al-Ahsa, according to a joint statement.

The planned 785-kilometre network will connect the two capitals with major stops in Hofuf and Dammam, and will link King Salman International Airport in Saudi Arabia to Hamad International Airport in Qatar. Trains are expected to travel at speeds above 300 km/h, cutting the journey between Riyadh and Doha to around two hours.

Construction is targeted for completion within six years. The project is projected to deliver an economic impact of USD 30.7 bln to the combined GDP of both countries, serve over 10 mln passengers annually, and create more than 30,000 direct and indirect jobs.
