Scrap import prices rise on winter supply disruptions and restocking demand

Turkey’s scrap import prices rose this week, driven by supply disruptions due to winter conditions and increased restocking demand. Prices were assessed at 340-350 per ton CFR, up from 330-340 per ton CFR last week.

The rise in scrap prices also lifted Turkish finished steel prices, though domestic demand remains sluggish. Market insiders note that further increases in scrap prices will depend on the performance of Turkish finished steel in both local and export markets. Easing geopolitical tensions have boosted sentiment, improving the outlook for export sales.

Turkish long steel export offers increased by 5 per ton over the past week. Rebar export offers now range between 560-570 per ton FOB, while wire rod offers stand at 575-585 per ton FOB.
