Turkey’s scrap import prices rose this week as steel mills booked new cargoes at higher levels. Prices were assessed at USD 345-347 per ton CFR, up from USD 340-345 per ton CFR last week.
Despite fresh purchases, mills remained cautious, prioritizing finished steel sales. Market sources said the renewed scrap buying was supported by firmer Chinese billet prices and longer lead times from other Asian billet producers.
Domestically, finished steel sales saw slight improvement, but exports stayed weak, partly due to Europe’s summer holiday slowdown.
Export offers were largely unchanged, with rebar at USD 540-550 per ton FOB and wire rod at USD 555-565 per ton FOB. However, several mills are reportedly ready to cut prices by USD 5-10 per ton to spur demand.
