Turkey imported 8.1 mln tons of ferrous scrap during the first five months of 2026, almost unchanged from the same period last year, according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
The United States remained Turkey’s largest scrap supplier during the January-May period, with shipments totaling 1.65 mln tons. The Netherlands ranked second with 1.06 mln tons, followed by the United Kingdom with 941,300 tons.
In May, Turkey’s ferrous scrap imports declined to 1.49 mln tons, down around 7pct YoY and nearly 20pct compared with April.
