SMS group has installed a new twin-stand Steckel mill at Shandong Tisco Xinhai Stainless Co. Ltd. in China. On June 21, the mill successfully rolled five coils in continuous operation, achieving dimensions of 1500 mm width and 2.0 mm thickness. The plant’s performance met expectations, leading to the issuance of the Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC) on June 26, 2024.
SMS group provided an integrated solution including mechanical equipment, fluid systems, and automation for the Steckel mill. Key components include a primary descaler, a four-high reversing roughing mill with an edger, and a drum shear. The mill features two four-high Steckel stands with CVC plus technology for work roll shifting, ensuring precise profile and flatness control.
The electrical and automation systems, managed by the X-Pact system, were optimized for efficient commissioning through the X-Pact Plug & Work integration test. This setup includes power supply, main drives, sensors, measuring devices, and process automation. The new Level 1 software architecture enhances responsiveness and production performance, making the plant well-suited for producing stainless and acid-resistant steels.
