Shougang Jingtang has contracted SMS group to supply a new continuous galvanizing line (CGL) at its Caofeidian plant in China. With an annual capacity of 450,000 tons, the line will produce high-quality galvanized sheet for the automotive sector, strengthening Shougang’s position in this market.
The line is designed for strip thicknesses of 0.4-2.3 mm and widths of 900-1,900 mm, operating at up to 180 meters per minute. SMS will provide engineering, core equipment, electrics, and automation, including systems to ensure optimal surface quality such as the FOEN air-knife for precise coating control and a DUMA-BANDZINK electrostatic oiling machine.
The CGL will feature SMS’s X-Pact One Pulpit system, enabling centralized, real-time monitoring of the entire process, supported by smart sensors, robotic applications, and advanced automation for high efficiency and consistent quality. A tailored drive package will ensure precise strip handling, tension control, and product uniformity.
This will be the eighth strip processing line supplied by SMS to Shougang Jingtang’s Caofeidian site. Start-up is scheduled for mid-2027.
