Sidersa has placed an order with Danieli for a MIDA QLP-DUE green steel minimill to be built in San Nicolas de los Arroyos, Buenos Aires, marking the first endless casting and rolling facility in Latin America.
The project is part of Sidersa’s expansion from a steel service center into long steel production. Approved earlier this year by the Argentine government, the USD 300 mln investment will deliver the country’s first new steel mill in over 50 years. The electric arc furnace-based plant will have capacity to produce 360,000 tons per year of rebar and wire rod.
Danieli said the minimill will feature its Octocaster endless casting technology, feeding a bar mill and wire rod line designed for high productivity, low energy consumption, and reduced emissions. The scope also includes automation systems, fume and water treatment plants, and auxiliary equipment.
Start-up of the plant is scheduled for the first half of 2028.
