SSAB announces major expansion of heat treatment capacity in Alabama

SSAB will invest around USD 74 mln to expand heat treatment capacity at its Axis, Alabama facility, significantly enhancing its ability to supply premium steel products to the U.S. market.

The project includes a new building with a state-of-the-art tempering furnace and infrastructure upgrades. It will support the production of high-strength steel brands like Hardox and Strenx, while also increasing truck shipping capacity.

“This investment reflects our commitment to customers and the industry,” said Andy Bramstedt, General Manager of SSAB Alabama. “It will bring new opportunities to our facility and the local community.” Construction is scheduled to begin in 2025 and finish by 2027.
