China’s steel exports rose by 7.5pct YoY in July 2024 to 7.83 mln tons, though this marked a decrease from May’s 8.75 mln tons and represents the second consecutive month-on-month decline. From January to July 2024, steel exports totaled 61.23 mln tons, up nearly 22pct YoY.
In contrast, steel imports for July dropped 25.7pct YoY to 505,000 tons. For the first seven months of 2024, imports decreased by 6.7pct YoY, totaling 4.12 mln tons. China’s iron ore imports increased by 5.3pct YoY in June to 102.81 mln tons. In Jan-Jul 2024, China has imported approximately 714 mln tons of iron ore, up 6.7pct from the same period last year.
