China’s steel exports surged by 16.5pct in June YoY, reaching 8.75 mln tons, although this was a decrease from May’s 9.63 mln tons. Data from the General Administration of Customs showed that in H1 2024, steel exports totaled 53.4 mln tons, representing a nearly 24pct increase YoY.
Meanwhile, China’s steel imports for June amounted to 575,000 tons, down by 5.7pct YoY. In H1 2024, steel imports decreased by 3.3pct compared to the same period last year, totaling 3.62 mln tons.
China’s iron ore imports in June decreased to 97.61 mln tons, down from 102.03 mln tons in May but up from 95.52 mln tons in June 2023. For the first half of 2024, China’s iron ore imports totaled 611.18 mln tons, marking a 6.2pct increase YoY.
