Pakistan imported 239,758 tons of steel scrap in May 2026, down by more than 25pct compared with 320,937 tons imported in the same month last year, according to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
However, steel scrap imports increased by 10.4pct compared with April, indicating a recovery in buying activity after the previous month’s slowdown.
During the January-May period, Pakistan imported approximately 1.33 mln tons of steel scrap, down 13.6pct YoY.
