SteelAsia Manufacturing Corp., the Philippines’ leading steel producer, has successfully commissioned its first solar rooftop photovoltaic (PV) system at its Meycauayan steel plant in Bulacan. The 1.9 megawatt-peak (MWp) installation, developed in partnership with TotalEnergies ENEOS, supports SteelAsia’s ongoing efforts to decarbonize its operations.
Equipped with over 3,200 solar modules, the system is expected to generate approximately 2,700 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable electricity annually. Under a 10-year agreement, TotalEnergies ENEOS funded, installed, and will operate the system, while SteelAsia will purchase the electricity with no upfront investment.
This initiative is part of SteelAsia’s broader commitment to renewable energy integration. Two of its other plants, the Calaca green steel facility and the Compostela, Cebu rolling mill, are already powered by geothermal energy.
As the Philippines’ leading rebar manufacturer, SteelAsia has an annual production capacity of over 3 mln tons across its six steel plants. Earlier this year, the company announced a USD 1 bln expansion plan over the next two to four years to diversify its product offerings, which will include wide flange beams, sheet piles, wire rods, flat bars, channels, T-bars, and lattice girders.
