Swiss special steel producer Steeltec AG has commissioned a new 4D EAGLE S laser measuring system at its rolling mill in Emmenbrucke to improve product quality control and rolling accuracy.
The system, jointly developed by Kocks and LAP, was installed downstream of Steeltec’s existing Kocks Reducing and Sizing Block (RSB). It provides real-time profile measurement and surface inspection for round bars with diameters of 16-66 mm and hexagonal products ranging from 17.7-62 mm.
Measurement data is integrated into Kocks’ SMART CORE X software, allowing operators to continuously monitor product dimensions and surface quality during rolling and identify deviations as part of the mill’s quality assurance process.
The laser-based system is designed for demanding rolling mill conditions and is expected to help Steeltec improve process efficiency and product quality, particularly for high-grade semi-finished steel used in demanding applications such as the automotive sector.
The installation marks another commissioning of the 4D EAGLE system jointly developed by Kocks and LAP for long steel products.
