Stegra signs rail freight agreement with Green Cargo

Sweden-based green steel producer Stegra has signed an agreement with rail freight operator Green Cargo to manage the transportation of raw materials and finished products for its upcoming steel plant in Boden.

Under the agreement, Green Cargo will handle freight flows between the Boden facility and key Swedish ports, supporting both inbound raw material deliveries and outbound steel shipments.

The partnership builds on Stegra’s previously announced agreements with the ports of Lulea, Skelleftea and Umea, with Green Cargo serving as a key logistics link between the steel plant and the port network.

Stegra is developing one of Europe’s flagship low-carbon steel projects. The facility will include a direct reduction plant, hydrogen electrolyzers, two electric arc furnaces, and downstream rolling and finishing facilities. Initial production capacity is planned at around 2.5 mln tons per year, with potential expansion to 5 mln tons annually in a later phase.
