Stomana orders Danieli equipment for rebar coil production

Bulgarian steelmaker Stomana Industry, part of the SIDENOR Group, has awarded Danieli a contract to supply new rolling mill equipment at its Pernik plant.

The project includes new upstream equipment to feed a Danieli K-Spool line relocated from the Sovel micromill in Greece, along with replacement of the existing abrasive disk saw.

The new rolling equipment will enable production of compact rebar coils weighing up to 3.6 tons, covering diameters from 8 to 20 mm. Danieli will supply two preboxes, pinch rolls, a crop/chopping shear, an eight-pass finishing block, six water boxes and associated systems.

The project will use thermomechanical rolling combined with Danieli Soft Quenching technology, a controlled-cooling process designed to improve metallurgical homogeneity, mechanical-property consistency and dimensional stability.

The new abrasive disk saw will also support production of SBQ rounds from 20 to 130 mm in diameter and 5 to 12.1 m in length.

Stomana Industry, part of the Greek Sidenor Group, is the second-largest steel mill in Bulgaria. Its product portfolio includes special steels (SBQs), hot-rolled plates, rebar, merchant bars, boron flats and grinding steel balls. The company has around 1.4 mln tons per year crude steelmaking capacity, with rolling capacity of about 1 mln tons per year for long products and 400,000 tons per year for plate products.
