Tata Steel, AWIPL ink long-term deal for ASU operations at Jamshedpur

Tata Steel has signed a 20-year operation and maintenance contract with Air Water India Pvt Ltd (AWIPL), a subsidiary of Japan’s Air Water Inc., for its new Air Separation Unit (ASU) under construction at the Jamshedpur site in Jharkhand.

The ASU, scheduled to start in November 2025, will produce 1,800 tons of oxygen per day, along with nitrogen, argon, and compressed air, to support Tata Steel’s blast furnaces and steel melting shops. Liquefied gases produced as by-products will also be supplied to merchant customers in Eastern and Northern India.

AWIPL, which already operates three gas plants at Jamshedpur, will provide remote operational support, maintenance strategies, and performance optimization to ensure efficiency and uninterrupted supply.

Tata Steel Group ranks among the world’s leading steel producers, with an annual crude steel capacity of 35 mln tons.
