Tata Steel Nederland BV has implemented PSImetals Production and Quality Execution at its IJmuiden plant as part of its Smart Steel Factory programme, marking a key step in its transition toward greener and more circular steelmaking.
The system strengthens quality control across the oxygen converter, secondary metallurgy and continuous casting operations by streamlining batch and slab qualification and improving the handling of quality deviations. This allows faster, more informed decision-making and supports the selection of alternative feasible grades when needed.
PSImetals also contributes to Tata Steel Nederland’s sustainability goals by reducing the risk of producing off-spec material that would otherwise be downgraded, improving resource efficiency and supporting more circular operations.
With heat and slab qualification now fully deployed, the entire IJmuiden site operates on a unified, modern digital platform, positioning the plant for a smoother transition to future low-carbon technologies such as Direct Reduced Iron (DRI).
The rollout forms part of Tata Steel Nederland’s broader strategy to modernize operations, improve efficiency and lay the digital foundation for its green-steel ambitions.
