Tata Steel Thailand has completed an EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) pre-verification audit at its SISCO plant, marking a step toward compliance with evolving EU carbon reporting requirements.
The audit was conducted by CARES and focused on supporting the steel producer’s preparation for the EU CBAM requirements, including the need for robust and independently verified emissions data.
The completion of the audit highlights the increasing importance of emissions transparency and carbon accountability for steel producers supplying markets covered by the EU’s carbon border mechanism.
CARES is also progressing its accreditation process and expects to undergo assessment by the Dutch Accreditation Council (RvA) as part of its aim to become an EU-accredited CBAM verifier in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Tata Steel Thailand Public Company Limited is Thailand’s largest and most diversified long steel producer, manufacturing rebar, wire rod and structural steel products. The company operates three manufacturing plants in Thailand with combined crude steel production capacity of around 1.4-1.5 mln tons per year. Its SISCO plant in Saraburi operates an electric arc furnace with annual crude steel capacity of 300,000 tons.
