Tenaris sets new coiled tubing production record

Tenaris has manufactured its longest and heaviest heat-treated 2-5/8-inch OD BlueCoil coiled tubing string to date, delivering an 88-ton string to oilfield services company CUDD Pressure Control for use in extended-reach completion operations.

The string was produced at Tenaris’ coiled tubing facility in Houston following a customer request for an exceptionally long tubing string designed for a special-order reel trailer. The project required the company to expand the facility’s accumulator and reel capacity, as the design exceeded its previous manufacturing weight limits.

According to Tenaris, the completed string weighs 88 tons, significantly above the 55-60 tons typically produced for shale applications. The company classifies any string weighing more than 63 tons as a heavy string.

Tenaris said the project involved modifications to equipment and production processes, including the use of specialized lifting equipment and new material handling procedures to accommodate the heavier design.

The record-setting coiled tubing string has been shipped to Oklahoma and is expected to begin operations in the Mid-Continent region.

Tenaris is a global manufacturer of steel pipes and related services for the energy industry, supplying tubular products and technical solutions for oil and gas drilling, production and industrial applications.
