Tenaris upgrades Bay City plant with new water filtration system

Tenaris has completed the installation and commissioning of a new water filtration system at its Bay City seamless pipe facility, aimed at further enhancing its already high 95pct water recycling rate.

The USD 8 mln system processes around 8,000-9,000 gallons of water per minute from the hot rolling mill. It is designed to improve water quality, reduce consumption, extend equipment life and support consistent product quality.

Process water first passes through a scale pit where large particles are removed, followed by hydrocyclone technology that separates finer particles through a vortex-based process without moving parts. Remaining solids are then treated in a filter press to recover additional water before disposal.

Tenaris’s Bay City plant is also the first pipe manufacturing facility in the U.S. to receive LEED certification, reflecting its focus on sustainability across water use, energy efficiency and environmental performance.
