Mexican steel producer Talleres y Aceros S.A. de C.V. (TYASA) plans to expand into automotive-grade steel to meet rising demand from the growing automotive industry in Mexico. To support this, TYASA has enlisted Primetals Technologies for a major upgrade of its 6-strand billet, bloom, and beam-blank caster. The upgrade will include new strand guides and an electromagnetic stirrer to improve inner-strand quality and meet high standards for automotive steel.
The revamped caster will have a capacity of 1.2 mln tons per year and produce a range of steel grades, including low-carbon, medium-carbon, high-carbon, and special bar qualities. Primetals Technologies will use its “Connect and Cast” concept to ensure a smooth startup and quick return on investment by integrating mechanical equipment with automation systems.
This upgrade will enable TYASA to produce high-quality automotive steels and enhance its ability to meet stringent industry standards. Primetals Technologies will provide essential mechanical components, electrics, and automation systems for the project.
A family-owned company, TYASA employs more than 3,000 people and produces special steel, flat steel, steel products for the construction industry.
