Vale’s iron ore pellet production in Oman fell nearly 32pct YoY in Q2 2025 to 1.744 mln tons, though it rose 9.3pct compared to the previous quarter.
In the first half of 2025, Vale Oman’s output declined 11.2pct YoY to 3.718 mln tons.
Globally, Vale’s pellet production dropped 11.7pct YoY in Q2 to 7.85 mln tons, mainly due to heavy rainfall in Brazil. For H1 2025, global output fell 13.4pct to 15.03 mln tons.
The company recently announced a downward revision to its 2025 pellet production forecast, citing oversupply and reduced demand for high-grade pellets. It now targets 31-35 mln tons for the year, down from the previous guidance of 38-42 mln tons. As part of the adjustment, Vale will temporarily halt operations at its Sao Luis pellet plant for maintenance.
Located at Sohar Port and inaugurated with a USD 2 bln investment in 2011, Vale Oman’s pelletizing plant has the capacity to produce 9 mln tons per annum of direct reduction pellets. Additionally, Vale Oman operates a stockyard and distribution center with an annual throughput of 40 mln tons.
