Vattenfall Europe Windkraft GmbH and steel producer Dillinger have signed a declaration of intent to accelerate the use of CO2-reduced steel in future wind projects. This collaboration supports Dillinger’s ongoing investments in low-carbon steel production, the companies stated.
Steel, particularly heavy plates produced by Dillinger, is a critical material in wind farm construction. The shift to CO2-reduced steel will play a significant role in decarbonizing power generation, Dillinger emphasized.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) outlines plans for close cooperation between the two partners to integrate low-carbon heavy plates into Vattenfall’s wind projects. Dillinger views early demand for CO2-reduced steel as vital to advancing its decarbonization efforts and supporting industry-wide progress.
Dillinger, Europe’s largest producer of heavy steel plates, manufactures over 2 mln tons annually. Its rolling mills in Dillingen, Germany, and Dunkirk, France, produce plates up to 40 meters long, over 5 meters wide, and up to 600 mm thickness.
