Austrian steelmaker Voestalpine has officially opened a new production facility in Jeffersonville, Indiana, following an investment of approximately EUR 70 mln (USD 80 mln) to expand its presence in the North American commercial vehicle market.
The new facility will manufacture high-quality longitudinal beams for Class 6, 7 and 8 trucks, which are key structural components used in tractor units for semi-trailer trucks. The plant is currently in the start-up phase, with full production expected by mid-2027.
With the expansion, Voestalpine will double the production capacity of its Jeffersonville site to 80,000 tons per year, enabling the company to fulfill long-term supply agreements with major North American truck manufacturers while strengthening its position as a supplier of special tubes and roll-formed profiles for the commercial vehicle industry.
The project includes approximately 15,000 square metres of additional production space and new manufacturing equipment for producing longitudinal beams.
