Voestalpine supplies premium rail systems for new Koralm high-speed line

Voestalpine Railway Systems has delivered the complete rail infrastructure package, including ultra-long rails, advanced turnout systems, and digital monitoring technology, for Austria’s new Koralm high-speed railway, set to begin operations on December 14, 2025. The line will connect Graz and Klagenfurt and features Austria’s longest rail tunnel.

The 120-meter rails, designed for train speeds up to 250 km/h, were produced at Voestalpine’s Donawitz rail rolling mill and supplied just-in-time for installation. Their enhanced performance, extended service life, and lower maintenance needs reflect ongoing technological improvements. Turnout systems and digital monitoring equipment were developed and manufactured in Styria, with additional turnout production at Weichenwerk Worth, a joint venture with OBB in Lower Austria.

Voestalpine’s intelligent monitoring systems provide continuous oversight of rail and turnout conditions, enabling predictive and condition-based maintenance while maintaining the highest safety standards.

Voestalpine is a global steel and technology group with about 500 companies across more than 50 countries. It is a leading partner to the automotive, machinery, aerospace, and energy industries and the global market leader in railway systems.
