Austria’s Voestalpine Tubulars has successfully commissioned a new profile rolling mill, designed and engineered by Friedrich Kocks GmbH & CO KG. The new equipment is now fully integrated into the hot tube rolling mill at the Kindberg site in Styria.
The project followed an extensive technological collaboration on the design and construction of a solution for rolling seamless hollow sections. The key component of the rolling mill, the PWW 530/4, features four 530 mm stands, each with two horizontal and vertical rolls. These rolls are individually driven and based on Kocks’ proven 3-roll stand design, allowing for fast roll changes and offering high flexibility in production planning. The scope of supply also included the necessary equipment for the roll shop.
With this new capability, Voestalpine Tubulars expands its expertise in seamless round tube production to include the manufacturing of seamless, hot-rolled square and rectangular hollow sections, accommodating large formats and wall thicknesses.
