Xinyu Iron and Steel, part of Baowu Group, has commissioned a new production facility with annual capacity of 250,000 tons of non-grain-oriented (NGO) electrical steel, with key process technologies supplied by Fives.
A significant share of the new capacity will serve the electric vehicle sector, supporting the production of more efficient and higher-performance electric motors. The remaining output will be supplied to industrial and power equipment markets.
Fives designed, supplied and commissioned key equipment for the facility, including the thermal section of an annealing and coating line (ACL N4) and DMS 20Hi EcoMill cold rolling mills. The annealing line features low-emission burners, controlled furnace atmospheres and rapid cooling technology designed to meet the quality requirements of high-grade electrical steel.
The DMS 20Hi EcoMill technology can process steel to thicknesses of 0.1 mm and below, with thickness control accuracy of up to +/- 2 microns, supporting the stringent requirements of electric motor applications.
Xinyu Iron and Steel Co. is a major integrated steel producer based in Xinyu, Jiangxi Province, China, and part of China Baowu Steel Group. The company produces steel plates, electrical steel, hot- and cold-rolled coils, wire rod and other specialty products. Xinyu has annual crude steel capacity of approximately 10 mln tons, with around 7 mln tons of plate production capacity.
