Primetals Technologies has received the final acceptance certificate (FAC) from Yantai Walsin Stainless Steel for a new stainless steel combination mill in Yantai, Shandong Province, China. This mill, which can produce 420,000 tons per year of stainless steel and nickel alloy products, is designed to meet growing demand for high-quality stainless steel in China.
The new facility enables Yantai Walsin to convert billets into finished products with tighter tolerances and improved surface quality, reducing peeling after pickling and cutting costs. It also features in-line quenching for austenitic and ferritic stainless products, which minimizes the need for post-processing annealing. Additionally, the mill is equipped for future integration of an in-line solution for wire rod treatment.
The project, completed by Primetals Technologies and CERI Long Products, includes a combination bar and rod mill with three outlets: a straight bar outlet (40 to 130 mm), a bar-in-coil outlet (18 to 40 mm), and a wire rod outlet (5.5 to 18 mm).
The mill features a next-generation breakdown mill, induction heating system, and a range of high-speed and precision equipment, including a Morgan No-Twist Mill and high-speed shear system.
