Trinecke Zelezarny completes partial hearth repair of BF4

Trinecke Zelezarny has completed a partial hearth repair of its BF4 blast furnace in the Czech Republic with SMS group, extending furnace life while avoiding a full rebuild.

The 3,100 tons per day furnace had experienced advanced wear in the hearth and tapping-hole areas. SMS group replaced worn carbon blocks and reprofiled the hearth using heat-resistant concrete, restoring a durable hearth profile within the planned schedule and significantly reducing downtime.

The repair applied Paul Wurth technology, combining sectoral carbon block replacement with specialized concrete reprofiling. By limiting work to the affected areas and optimizing drying and follow-on activities, the project shortened the repair window and lowered risk and costs compared with a full hearth replacement.

Trinecke Zelezarny, part of Moravia Steel Group, produces high-quality long steel products and has annual crude steel capacity of about 2.5 mln tons.
