Algerian Qatari Steel signs strategic logistics agreement with Jijel port

Algerian Qatari Steel (AQS) has signed a strategic partnership agreement with the Port of Jijel (Djen Djen) to enhance its export capabilities and improve logistics performance across its supply chain, according to the company’s statement.

The partnership aims to streamline export operations by increasing shipment volumes and improving end-to-end logistics from plant to vessel, while reducing costs, lead times and overall operational inefficiencies.

It is also expected to improve cargo flow along the Bellara-Jijel corridor and reduce vessel turnaround times, strengthening AQS’s competitiveness in global markets amid rising challenges.

The agreement builds on ongoing cooperation between the two sides. Since the beginning of the year, 13 export vessels have been shipped via Jijel port, which also handled the company’s first shipments to South America.

Founded in 2013, AQS is a joint venture between Qatar Steel International (49pct) and Algerian partners (51pct). It operates a 2.5 mln tons per year Midrex DRI plant, two electric arc furnace (EAF) melt shops with a combined capacity of 2.2 mln tons, and three rolling mills capable of producing up to 2 mln tons of rebar and wire rod annually.
