Corinth Pipeworks to use ArcelorMittal XCarb steel in pipe production

Corinth Pipeworks and ArcelorMittal have expanded their collaboration with the use of XCarb recycled and renewably produced steel in pipe manufacturing, marking the first application of the material in Corinth Pipeworks’ energy pipe production. The development was announced at the Tube Fair in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The cooperation focuses on supplying lower-emission steel solutions for energy infrastructure, including applications in conventional pipelines and emerging segments such as hydrogen transportation.

XCarb recycled and renewably produced steel is manufactured via electric arc furnace (EAF) using at least 75pct scrap and 100pct renewable electricity, enabling around 65pct lower CO2 emissions compared with the conventional blast furnace route.

The companies said the collaboration supports efforts to reduce the environmental footprint of pipeline projects while maintaining performance standards required for energy sector applications.

Corinth Pipeworks, a division of Cenergy Holdings, operates a facility in Thisvi, Greece, with an annual production capacity of 1 mln tons of steel pipes for energy and construction markets. Earlier this year, the company expanded its operations by acquiring an LSAW pipe mill in Hartlepool, UK, adding a further 250,000 tons of annual capacity.
