Steel exports fall in January-April, imports continue to rise – TCUD

Turkey’s steel exports declined by 3.3pct YoY to 3.5 mln tons in the first four months of 2026, while export revenues fell 5.5pct to USD 3.2 bln, according to data from the Turkish Steel Producers’ Association (TCUD).

However, exports showed signs of recovery in April, increasing 11.3pct YoY to 1.3 mln tons. Export revenues for the month rose 9.3pct to USD 885.5 mln.

Steel imports continued to outpace exports, rising 6.3pct YoY to 5.9 mln tons during the January-April period. Import value increased by nearly 1pct to USD 4.1 bln. In April alone, imports climbed 17.7pct YoY to 1.6 mln tons, while their value rose 7.8pct to USD 1.1 bln.

As a result, Turkey’s export-to-import ratio declined to 78.1pct in the first four months of 2026, compared with 83.4pct in the corresponding period last year.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s crude steel production increased by 6.3pct YoY to 13 mln tons in January-April. April output rose 9.4pct to 3.3 mln tons.

Finished steel consumption also remained strong, growing 10pct YoY to 13.2 mln tons in the first four months of the year, while April demand increased by around 12pct to 3.3 mln tons.
