Jindal Stainless plans to invest INR 900 crore (USD 94.1 mln) to increase its cold rolling capacity in India from 2.05 mln tons per annum to 2.67 mln tons per annum by FY28, managing director Abhyuday Jindal said in the company’s FY26 annual report.
The expansion will add 0.62 mln tons per annum of capacity and support rising demand from the automotive, appliances, food processing and industrial sectors. The investment will cover facilities in Hisar and Kharagpur, along with new hot rolling annealing, pickling and cold rolling facilities at Jajpur in Odisha.
The additional capacity will enable the company to produce thinner cold rolled stainless steel products with tighter dimensional and surface specifications, supporting its shift towards higher-value products.
Jindal Stainless is targeting sales volumes of around 3.5 mln tons per annum by FY29 as it aligns its melting and downstream capacities. The company sold 2.57 mln tons of finished products in FY26, up 8.1pct YoY.
Separately, the company is identifying a site in Maharashtra for a proposed INR 40,000 crore (USD 4.18 bln) stainless steel facility targeting specialized grades for hydrogen, nuclear energy, defence, mobility, infrastructure and process industries. The project is expected to support import substitution and expand Jindal Stainless’ presence in higher-value applications.
Jindal Stainless, India’s largest stainless steel producer, has an annual melt capacity of 4.2 mln tons. The company operates 16 manufacturing and processing facilities across India, Spain, and Indonesia, along with a global network spanning 12 countries. Its product portfolio includes slabs, coils, plates, sheets, precision strips, blade steel, and coin blanks.
