Isdemir is supplying HRC specifically developed for electrical steel production to Erdemir Romania, strengthening the integration of OYAK Mining Metallurgy’s Turkish and European operations.
The coils are used at the Romanian facility to produce non-grain-oriented electrical steel. Erdemir Romania has an annual production capacity of 150,000 tons, with 90 pct of output exported to European markets and the USA.
The cooperation between Isdemir and Erdemir Romania is supporting higher capacity and production efficiency while providing a platform for developing higher value-added electrical steel products. The Romanian plant is focusing on thinner grades with lower magnetic losses, including “E-Car” steels for electric vehicle traction motors.
Erdemir Romania, located in Targoviste, has more than 50 years of electrical steel production heritage. Erdemir acquired the facility in 2002, and its annual capacity has since increased from around 20,000 tons to 150,000 tons.
OYAK Mining Metallurgy Group operates major steelmaking companies including Erdemir and Isdemir, with combined crude steel capacity of around 8.1 mln tons per year.
