Hyundai E&C secures major contract for Riyadh-Kudmi transmission line project

Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C) has secured a major contract to build an ultra-high-voltage transmission network in Saudi Arabia.

The company signed a USD 725 mln agreement with Saudi Electricity Co. (SEC) in Riyadh for the construction of the “Saudi Riyadh-Kudmi 500kV High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Transmission Line” project. This marks Hyundai E&C’s largest transmission project in Saudi Arabia’s power grid to date.

The project will establish a 1,089 km HVDC transmission line connecting the PP14 Combined Cycle Power Plant in Riyadh to the Kudmi area on the southern coast. Hyundai E&C will oversee the first section, spanning 369 km near the Kudmi area, with completion expected in January 2027. The contract was secured using a turnkey approach, meaning Hyundai E&C will manage the entire process from design and procurement to construction.
