Romania’s ArcelorMittal Hunedoara has announced a temporary suspension of operations until March 31, 2025, citing rising energy prices and economic difficulties, according to local media reports.
In response to these challenges, the company’s Board of Directors has decided to halt operations from February 14 to March 31, 2025, as part of urgent cost-reduction measures. Employees affected by the suspension will receive 75pct of their base salary during this period.
This follows a similar temporary reduction in activity in December 2024, when wages were also paid at 75pct. At the time, the decision was attributed to low order volumes and declining production.
ArcelorMittal Hunedoara operates a mini-mill equipped with an electric arc furnace, ladle furnace, continuous caster, and section rolling mill.
