Govt unveils USD 2.2 bln rail infrastructure plan

Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has launched a USD 2.2 bln railway program in Casablanca, part of a broader USD 10.6 bln national mobility strategy to expand sustainable transport, link major cities, and drive socio-economic growth.

The plan includes the new Casablanca-Sud station, designed for 12 mln passengers annually, connecting high-speed trains, regional services, a surface metro, and an airport express to Mohammed V Airport. Additional stations will be built in Benslimane, near the Grand Stade Hassan II, and inside Casablanca Airport, together handling 17 mln passengers a year.

The program also covers 10 metropolitan stations, upgrades to existing facilities, new tracks, maintenance workshops, and 48 advanced train sets from Hyundai Rotem, which will also establish a local plant.
