Aperam Stainless Belgium has signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with LRM to source renewable electricity from Kristal Solar Park, Belgium’s largest photovoltaic installation. The deal reinforces Aperam’s commitment to decarbonization and sustainable steel production.
The agreement coincides with a major expansion of Kristal Solar Park, which will add 50,000 panels and boost its renewable capacity. The project, led by LRM, the City of Lommel, and Nyrstar, is scheduled to be operational in November 2025.
By sourcing locally generated green electricity, Aperam advances its roadmap to cut greenhouse gas intensity by 20pct by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The PPA complements on-site solar installations at Aperam’s Genk and Chatelet plants, strengthening its long-term renewable energy portfolio.
Aperam, a global leader in stainless, electrical, and specialty steels as well as recycling and renewables, operates 16 production facilities across Brazil, Belgium, France, the U.S., India, and China, with a total stainless and electrical steel capacity of 2.5 mln tons.
