ArcelorMittal orders cold rolling mill and coating line for Alabama plant

International technology group Andritz has secured an order from ArcelorMittal Calvert to supply an annealing and coating line, along with a cold rolling mill, for its new state-of-the-art electrical steel facility in Calvert, Alabama, USA.

The facility will produce up to 150,000 tons of non-grain oriented electrical steel (NOES) annually, supporting sustainable advancements in the automotive, industrial, and commercial sectors.

Designed for efficiency and superior strip quality, the Andritz equipment ensures high production standards. The S6-high cold rolling mill, capable of rolling widths up to 1,650 mm at speeds of 1,000 m/min, processes material to a thickness of 0.2-0.5 mm. Its advanced heating, cooling, and rolling model optimizes production costs and material quality.

The cutting-edge annealing and coating line further enhances NOES quality. Its electrically heated annealing furnace eliminates fossil fuel emissions, while an advanced furnace model optimizes material performance and energy efficiency.

Andritz’s scope includes the design, supply, and installation supervision of all mechanical and electrical equipment, ensuring seamless commissioning and operation.
